The Clinician and Coviu have formed a partnership to launch an integrated telehealth and remote patient monitoring (RPM) solution for the management of COVID-19 patients. The Clinician’s and Coviu’s integrated digital solution for COVID-19 monitoring will equip GPs and practice nurses with the ability to remotely monitor COVID-19 positive patients and conduct virtual consultations using a home care model.
Clinicians will be able to enroll their patients into a purpose-built COVID-19 digital pathway, enabling the collection of key objective vitals including temperature and blood oxygen saturation levels, as well as subjective patient-reported outcomes such as chills, coughing, muscle aches and others. What makes this a ‘complete’ digital solution for COVID-19, is the seamless integration with Coviu’s telehealth services, enabling a nurse or GP to not only remotely monitor their patients but also consult with patients directly over a video call as needed.
This telehealth and RPM integrated solution will provide GPs and Practice Nurses with a monitoring dashboard containing real-time patient responses and outcomes. Access to this data will enable clinical staff to identify and prioritise the most at-risk patients so that urgent and personalised interventions can occur. Additionally, if patient results fall outside of normal parameters, automatic alerts will notify both the patient and provider, signalling the need for urgent medical attention. Patients can feel reassured with the knowledge that their GP practice is closely monitoring their COVID-19 outcomes, and that when needed, rapid escalation of care can take effect.
The Clinician and Coviu have a proven track record of delivering effective digital health solutions. Coviu’s video telehealth solution offers healthcare providers an easy and safe way to deliver care to infectious patients without having to install any apps or other software. A simple click on a link suffices to connect a patient to their carer. The Clinician’s AI-driven platform, ZEDOC, offers healthcare providers real-time health monitoring, analysis, and risk prediction by collecting health data directly from patients in the comfort of their own homes.

"Break-through COVID-19 infections will occur even with the high vaccination rates that we have. The natural management of break-through COVID-19 patients is by keeping them out of the community and treating them at home but closely monitored by their GP. Telehealth in combination with remote patient monitoring can give both patients and clinicians the piece of mind they need to be able to deal with this challenging situation." - Dr Silvia Pfeffer, CEO of Coviu
"We have been seeing the mounting pressure on the health system to be able to better look after patients with COVID-19 isolating at home. It is clear that these patients can deteriorate quite rapidly at home so routine monitoring and timely intervention is absolutely crucial. Our fully integrated remote patient monitoring solution with Coviu is very well placed to address this need and at scale" - Dr Ron Tenenbaum, CEO of The Clinician

Frequently Asked Questions
Coviu users are already using Coviu to check in with patients via video on a regular basis however, we wanted to provide access to a Dashboard that tracks the status of clinicians patients. That’s where The Clinician comes in, as they provide a Dashboard for remotely monitoring patients. It provides a powerful command centre to practices and helps them deal with a lot of cases in a simple, scalable way.
Patients simply have to register with The Clinician’s mobile application, allowing them to enter the data of their medical device - e.g. the oxygenation readout from the pulse oximeter and patients will need to answer a set of questions about how they are feeling.
Patients will then get frequent reminders on their phone to provide this data which all ends up on the Dashboard that clinicians have access to.
If a patient is outside normal parameters, the practitioners get an alert from their Dashboard and use that to check in with the patient via a video call.
On the patient end, everything happens through the one Mobile App, including the Coviu calls. On The Clinician's end, everything happens through the Coviu App which gives them a virtual patient waiting area and access to the patient command centre of The Clinician application.
The system is flexible enough to implement whichever pathway a PHN has adopted for the GP practices in their region with triaging of deteriorating patients leading to hospital admissions.
Pulse oximeters are an important part of monitoring COVID-19 patients as they measure blood oxygenation and pulse rate.
Other vital sign readings are also important for COVID-19 diagnostics, including body temperature and respiratory rate. These vital signs can be entered by a patient into a mobile application or provided via Bluetooth-connected devices.
In addition, clinicians need to be able to capture other symptoms such as exhaustion, ease of breathing, chest pain, mental acuity, diarrhea, and other changes to the patient’s health, which can all be captured through patient questionnaires. With a configured mobile application and remote monitoring by a GP or nurse and frequent check-ins via video, patients will receive the best care with practitioners still in the driving seat to support those in their care.
We also have the technology to be able to provide this type of care. The devices are simple to be used by patients themselves, providing a simple and efficient solution.
Our goal right now is to offer an affordable solution that helps practices scale the number of patients they can look after while providing high-quality support.
We're looking towards the government to provide reimbursements for nurses to remotely monitor patients via video telehealth and remote patient monitoring. GP practices cannot offer such a service for free and patients should not have to be stuck with an out-of-pocket expense for avoiding regular trips to their GP for check-ins.
